Issue 740 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Justice has removed more than one hundred judges from the federal immigration courts. One of the removed judges had approved 97 percent of asylum claims from 2019 through 2024, higher than any other federal immigration judge and far exceeding the national approval average of 40 percent. President Trump’s administration is deporting approximately 80 percent of asylum claimants.

Pray for wisdom for Attorney General Pamela Bondi and for discernment for federal immigration judges as they hear asylum application cases.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

The House of Representatives narrowly voted down the ROTOR Act, which was introduced by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and passed in the upper chamber by unanimous consent. The act would require all aircraft, including the military, to be equipped with specific location transmission technology, known as ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast). It would also remove waivers for military exemptions from technology mandates.

Pray for members of the House and Senate as they assess and deliberate on options to improve airspace safety.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Agriculture Committee, chaired by Senator John Boozman of Arkansas, advanced a bill last month to increase the budget of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The commission is projected to need additional funding as cryptocurrencies are added to its regulatory purview. Under the legislation, digital commodity brokers, dealers, exchanges, and digital asset custodians would have to register with the agency and pay annual and volume-based fees. The CFTC is also claiming regulatory jurisdiction over prediction markets, which are increasing in popularity.

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees to be prudent as they evaluate the necessary appropriations for federal agencies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals reversed a lower court’s ruling that blocked the state of Louisiana from implementing a bill to require public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom. A district judge had granted a preliminary injunction after a group of parents challenged the legislation as unconstitutional under the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment.

Pray for federal justices and judges as they interpret the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
