Maduro Pleads “Not Guilty” in Federal Court

The 25-page federal indictment includes charges of drug and weapons trafficking.

In New York federal court, former Venezuelan Leader Nicholas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, pleaded not guilty to charges of federal drug trafficking and weapons charges on Monday. The couple is facing a 25-page indictment that includes allegations of accumulating wealth from a narco-terrorism conspiracy, as well as cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices. Neither defendant is currently seeking bail, but their attorneys have stated that they may do so in the future.

President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. is “going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.” He also said that the U.S. will continue to enforce the blockade on Venezuela’s oil exports, to ensure the ongoing cooperation of the acting leadership in Venezuela under new President Delcy Rodriguez.

Court proceedings for the dictator and his wife are expected to take months, and they are set to appear again in court on March 17.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump as he continues to monitor the ongoing situation in Venezuela.
  • For the judges and attorneys who will be involved with the ongoing court proceedings for both Maduro and Flores.
  • For U.S. officials as they engage in discussions with new Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez.
