HUD Report Details Billions in Potential Payment Errors

The agency plans to continue investigating errors and put new processes in place to prevent such problems in the future.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released its Agency Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2025 to Congress. The report, which is released annually, details how the housing department is managing public funds. This year, for the first time, the department was able to use advanced data analytics to examine payments made for all Tenant-Based Rental Assistance and Project-Based Rental Assistance in 2024.

As a result of these new forms of data analytics, the agency was able to identify more than $5 billion in potential payment errors, including improper payments, process gaps, and material weaknesses.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner stated, “HUD will continue investigating the shocking results and will take appropriate action to hold bad actors accountable” for the errors that have been identified.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Turner as he oversees continuing investigations into the potential misuse of HUD funds.
  • For wisdom for HUD officials as they set new policies in place to prevent funding misuse in the future
  • For Congress as they consider appropriations for programs such as HUD’s Tenant-Based Rental Assistance and Project-Based Rental Assistance programs
