Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of the Treasury announced a proposed rule that would prevent illegal aliens and other non-qualified aliens from receiving certain individual income tax credits. “Under President Trump’s leadership we are enforcing the law and preventing illegal aliens from claiming tax benefits intended for American citizens,“ Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. “We will continue to ensure that taxpayer resources are directed only to those who are entitled under the law.”
Pray for Secretary Bessent and U.S. treasury and revenue officials as they seek to ensure tax credits are provided only to legal recipients.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota indicated that his chamber has had challenges making progress on the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. Senator Thune said, “My assumption is that by next week when we have to have that vote, that we might not be far enough along on the bipartisan discussions.” One of the hurdles is disagreement over the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. The majority leader said, “Dealing with Hyde is a big issue, obviously, for both sides.”
Pray for Senate Majority Leader Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson to receive God’s wisdom as they preside over their respective chambers.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Representative James Comer of Kentucky, considered a measure this week, introduced by Representative Chuck Edwards of North Carolina, that would add a citizenship question to the U.S. census. The bill would adjust the apportionment of congressional seats to include only U.S. citizens after 2030.
Pray for members of Congress as they seek to determine whether the apportionment of congressional districts will continue to include noncitizens residing in the United States.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The justices of the Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week in a case in which the state of New Jersey subpoenaed the donor list of a faith-based crisis pregnancy center. The pregnancy center claimed that the state’s investigation violates the organization’s rights under the First Amendment and that disclosure of its donor list could dissuade support.
Pray for discernment for the Supreme Court justices as they hear and deliberate cases regarding constitutional rights and protections.
