Members of the Vulcan Joint Task Force FBI unit are leading operations.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to a request from the government of Guatemala for U.S. assistance in tracking down sixteen members of the Barrio 18 gang who escaped from their Fraijanes II prison in mid-October. Agents in the FBI’s Vulcan Joint Task Force unit recently met with Guatemala’s Interior Minister Marco Antonio Villeda to begin collaborative operations, which include intelligence sharing, profile tracing, international tracking, and identification of possible logistical support networks for the fugitives.
The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala stated, “The United States designated members of this heinous group as the terrorists they are and will hold accountable anyone who has provided, provides, or chooses to provide material support to these fugitives or other gang members.”
The Guatemalan government has also classified the Barrio 18 gang as a “terrorist” organization. The escape of the gang members has caused a security crisis in Guatemala, and the government is taking steps to make changes and hold the appropriate people accountable.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the safety of the FBI agents working with authorities in Guatemala to recapture the escaped gang members.
- For FBI Director Kash Patel to be led by the Lord as he leads the agency and interacts with international government teams.
- For wisdom for U.S. leaders as they work with other government leaders to address complex issues, incluing organized international crime.
