DOE finalizes Venture Global CP2 LNG project approval, expanding U.S. natural gas exports
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has approved final authorization for the Venture Global CP2 liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, allowing exports of up to 3.96 billion cubic feet per day to countries without free trade agreements. The decision follows earlier approvals from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and supports a broader federal effort to increase domestic energy production and export capacity.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Assistant Secretary Kyle Haustveit of the Office of Fossil Energy stated the project would provide reliable energy to global partners while supporting job creation and infrastructure development in the U.S.
“In less than ten months, President Trump’s administration is redefining what it means to unleash American energy by approving record new LNG exports,” said Assistant Secretary Haustveit. “Finalizing the non-FTA authorization for CP2 LNG will enable secure and reliable American energy access for our allies and trading partners, while also providing well-paid jobs and economic opportunities at home.”
The authorization is a step in expanding LNG exports since the federal government resumed processing applications for non-free-trade-agreement (FTA) countries. Current U.S. LNG exports average about 15 billion cubic feet per day, reflecting continued growth in the sector.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Wright to seek God’s wisdom as he heads the Department of Energy.
- For Assistant Secretary Haustveit to be prudent in his oversight of the Office of Fossil Energy.
- For U.S. energy officials as they evaluate and approve exports of liquified natural gas.
