The Binance cryptocurrency exchange founder had pleaded guilty to money laundering.
President Donald Trump pardoned Binance cryptocurrency exchange founder Changpeng Zhao, who pleaded guilty to money laundering charges in 2023. The Justice Department under President Biden had determined that the cryptocurrency exchange allowed users to avert federal sanctions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said “the war on cryptocurrency” is over. She said that the sentence imposed was far beyond the sentencing guidelines. The press secretary said that such actions “severely damaged the United States’ reputation as a global leader in technology and innovation.”
“A lot of people say he wasn’t guilty of anything,” President Trump said, adding, “I don’t know him, I don’t believe I’ve ever met him, but I’ve been told … he had a lot of support, and they said that what he did is not even a crime. It wasn’t a crime that he was persecuted by the Biden administration, and so I gave him a pardon at the request of a lot of very good people.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump to be prudent in his consideration of pardons and commutations.
- For the president’s advisors to seek God’s direction as they provide input and recommendations.
