Issue 719 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, as rioters have continued to demonstrate at the local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, sometimes attacking federal agents in the area. Around 200 troops will be deployed under federal status for 60 days, according to Secretary Hegseth’s order. The state has requested a temporary restraining order to halt the deployment while a lawsuit proceeds against the president’s administration.

Pray for wisdom for President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and members of the National Guard as they seek to restore law and order and prevent violence in Portland.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson responded to questions regarding the government shutdown and the funding the minority party wanted to include in the short-term resolution. He outlined how the continuing resolution had been a straightforward attempt to give Congress more time for spending negotiations. The speaker also highlighted the provisions that the House and Senate minority leaders were holding out for, which he said included healthcare for all illegal immigrants and the refunding of National Public Radio.

Pray for members of both chambers of Congress as they evaluate their options to reduce political violence in the nation.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, chair of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, responded to a report on the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) actions that directed the removal of content on social media during the 2020 election season. “Our report shows that the Biden administration used CISA to strong arm social media companies into taking action against speech protected by the First Amendment,” said Senator Cruz. “For the past decade, I’ve led the fight against government censorship, whether it’s CISA or the FCC or the Biden White House. Inevitably, these tactics have been and will be disproportionately used to silence conservatives.”

Pray for the chairs and members of congressional committees as they investigate federal agencies that have been alleged to violate Americans’ constitutional rights.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

Federal Judge William Young of the District of Massachusetts ruled that efforts by President Trump’s administration to deport academics voicing support for terrorists are a violation of the First Amendment right to free speech. The judge stated, “The effect of these targeted deportation proceedings continues unconstitutionally to chill freedom of speech to this day.” Judge Young will hold further proceedings before determining how to address the administration’s policies.

Pray for discernment for district and appellate judges as they hear and interpret immigration laws and constitutional rights.
