Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a press release urging the media to stop “demonizing“ President Donald Trump, his supporters, and DHS law enforcement. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, “This demonization is inspiring violence across the country. Our ICE officers are facing a more than 1000% increase in assaults against them. We have to turn down the temperature before someone else is killed. This violence must end.” The statement was released after two federal officers were injured by those resisting arrest in the week after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The department also listed multiple inciting quotes from politicians and examples of the violence being deployed against federal agents.
Pray for President Trump, Secretary Noem, and Secret Service Director Curran as they seek to address the rise in political violence.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
The Senate unanimously passed a resolution condemning the assassination of Charlie Kirk last week and honoring his “commitment to the constitutional principles of civil discussion and debate between all people.“ The House of Representatives passed a similar resolution honoring Kirk and called “upon all Americans… to reject political violence, recommit to respectful debate, uphold American values, and respect one another as fellow Americans.” One hundred twenty-two U.S. representatives either did not support the resolution or did not vote.
Pray for members of both chambers of Congress as they evaluate their options to reduce political violence in the nation.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) heard testimony from former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Susan Monarez last week. Senator Rand Paul questioned the former director, who was fired from the CDC by HHS Secretary Kennedy in August, on recommendations for COVID vaccines for children and Hepatitis B vaccinations for newborns. Monarez maintained that the CDC does not force anyone to be vaccinated, but “provides recommendations… to allow parents and physicians and others to make a choice, a decision, in the best interest of themselves and the health of their families.”
Pray for senators on committees as they investigate the inner workings of and provide oversight for federal agencies.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
A federal judge in Maryland ruled that the Justice Department could denaturalize a man from El Salvador for repeatedly raping his stepdaughter. The court found that the man “lacked the requisite good moral character to naturalize due to his crimes“ and that he lied on immigration papers. The case is part of the DOJ’s Operation Prison Lookout, which seeks to denaturalize sex offenders to “support the overall integrity of the naturalization program.“
Pray for federal judges to be discerning as they hear and rule on immigration and naturalization cases.
