A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. – Proverbs 15:1
Sweet Words
Have you ever exchanged harsh words in the heat of the moment? Of all the verses you could commit to memory, today’s verse is very relevant to these contentious days in the United States. The ability to give a “soft answer“ is a result of spending time with the Lord and submitting to His Holy Spirit. When you receive His love and set your heart on Him, your words reflect His heart and may be used for what Scripture says they ought to be: a witness, an encouragement, a challenge, an edifier, a kind voice advocating for righteousness. As you consider how to respond to those in your sphere of influence, concentrate on how Jesus applied the Word of God, delivering truth in a caring way. Pray for the Lord to transform your heart so that, as David described God’s precepts, His Word will be “sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb“ in your mouth (Psalm 19:10; 119:103). Intercede for those with whom you speak, that the Lord will soften the hearts of those who oppose Him.
