He hosted the Gold Star families at the White House earlier this week.
President Donald Trump hosted the Gold Star families of the 13 U.S. soldiers who died four years ago in the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, as the American military was withdrawing from the region.
President Trump told the families ahead of signing the proclamation, “There are some great souls that are looking down on you right now, and they’re very proud of their parents, and brothers, and sisters. Moms and dads, especially. That’s what I seem to have dealt with, mostly. There’s nothing tougher.”
The president thanked the media for being respectful of the families at the event, saying, “They deserve it. They went through hell for no reason. It should have never happened.”
Vice President JD Vance, a Marine Corps veteran, said to the families, “We’re so honored to have all of you here. I know that days like today can’t make the hurt go away. But hopefully four years on, we can start to remember with fondness and a little bit a joy, the people that were taken from us. We’re so proud of you.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Lord to comfort the Gold Star families who have lost loved ones on active military duty.
- For President Trump to receive God’s direction as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.
- For wisdom for the president, vice president, and defense secretary as they assess the readiness of the U.S. military.
