Issue 711 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the Federal Railroad Administration is canceling two grants that committed more than $26 million for a high-speed rail project connecting Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The federal government is ending its support of the Superconducting Magnetic Levitation project after “nearly a decade of poor planning, significant community opposition, tremendous cost overruns, and nothing to show for it.“ The secretary said that the “project lacked everything needed to be a success, from planning to execution.“

Pray for Secretary Duffy and Transportation Department officials as they assess potential projects that are innovative, effective, and beneficial to communities.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative James Comer of Kentucky, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has subpoenaed former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorneys General, and others for testimony and documents related to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s accomplice, was also subpoenaed, but her deposition will be delayed until the Supreme Court considers an appeal of her conviction. Congressman Comer wrote, “The Committee may use the results of this investigation to inform legislative solutions to improve federal efforts to combat sex trafficking and reform the use of non-prosecution agreements and/or plea agreements in sex-crime investigations.”

Pray for wisdom for Senators and Representatives as they seek to address trafficking and exploitation in the United States.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith of Missouri and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman David Schweikert of Arizona have requested financial records, information related to the use of private jets, and other documents from three Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) following allegations of potential Medicare reimbursement fraud and abuse.

Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they investigate potential fraud and abuse of federal programs.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court is considering taking up a case that challenges the redistricting of congressional maps based on racial profiles. The case questions the interpretation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act that has been used to create apportionments for congressional districts according to race so that minority populations are represented by their preferred candidate.

Pray for the justices of the Supreme Court to be led by the Lord as they deliberate over the cases they will add to their fall term docket.
