The agency alleges two Chinese nationals “knowingly and willfully” exported the technology without a license.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged two Chinese nationals this week for illegally shipping sensitive microchips to China. The announcement alleges that the two suspects, Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang, “knowingly and willfully” exported these chips without obtaining the required Department of Commerce licenses for three years.

The department stated that some of the chips they sent are the “most powerful GPU chip on the market” and are “designed specifically for AI applications,” such as those used “to develop self-driving cars, medical diagnosis systems, and other AI-powered applications.”

The Justice Department charged the two suspects with violating the Export Control Reform Act, a felony carrying a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Pam Bondi and Justice Department officials as they seek to protect U.S. technology from theft by foreign agents.
  • For Secretary Howard Lutnick to be prudent in his oversight of the Commerce Department and approval of export licenses.
