Russia Withdraws from Nuclear Treaty as U.S. Repositions Nuclear Submarines

President Trump continued to seek a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

President Donald Trump announced that two U.S. nuclear submarines have been repositioned in response to recent remarks made by Russia’s former president and current deputy chair of its National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev.

President Trump cited Medvedev’s “highly provocative“ statements as the reason he “ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”

The president continued, “Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

Though U.S. submarines regularly patrol global hotspots, the order highlights growing tension as President Trump simultaneously seeks a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

President Trump shortened a 50-day deadline to 10 days for Russia to show progress toward ending the war, with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff set to travel to Moscow. If no advancements are made, President Trump warned that new economic sanctions could follow.

Russia has announced that it no longer considers itself bound to the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. The nation stated that the conditions of the decades-old nuclear agreement with the United States are no longer in play.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump as he continues to seek peace in Ukraine and authorizes military assistance to that nation for defense.
  • For U.S. diplomats and officials to be led by the Lord as they work to bring about a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
