Vice President JD Vance voted to break the 50-50 Senate tie to pass President Donald Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.” The legislation now returns to the House of Representatives for consideration before another vote on the amendments the upper chamber made.
Ahead of the Senate vote, President Trump posted Monday evening, “The One Big Beautiful Bill, perhaps the greatest and most important of its kind in history, gives the largest Tax Cuts and Border Security ever, Jobs by the Millions, Military/Vets increases, and so much more. The failure to pass means a whopping 68% Tax increase, the largest in history!!!”
While the massive bill passed in the House in May, there is some concern over the changes that were made in the Senate. The House Rules Committee is expected to take up the bill on Wednesday. House Speaker Mike Johnson said that, since he intends to honor the customary 72-hour window for members of Congress to review the legislation text, the bill may exceed the July 4th timeline set by President Trump.
Speaker Johnson called the legislation “jet fuel” for the nation’s economy: “It makes the Trump tax cuts permanent, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, provides tax relief for seniors, and slashes regulations to spur job creation and economic growth.”
