Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright recently testified before a Senate committee regarding the previous administration’s awarding of $93 billion in loans and commitments after the 2024 election. The amount was more than double the combined loan total of the past 15 years. Secretary Wright told the committee that, in many cases, there was no due diligence, no business plan or financials submitted. He said that the Energy Department is in the process of reviewing the loans and grants.
Pray for secretaries in all departments of the federal government as they seek to ensure taxpayer dollars are being wisely and effectively used.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
The office of Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin issued an interim report alleging that CDC and FDA officials delayed reporting the risk of myocarditis from Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines in young people in February 2021. The report stated that federal health officials “opted to withhold issuing a formal warning to the public for months about the safety concerns, jeopardizing the health of young Americans.“ The senator cited letters he received from doctors and health professionals who were censored or had their findings suppressed.
Pray for Senators and Representatives as they review the actions of federal health officials and agencies during the pandemic.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The House Oversight Committee, chaired by Representative James Comer of Kentucky, is leading an investigation into thousands of pardons signed by autopen during the final weeks and days of President Joe Biden’s administration. The committee is looking into whether the then-president personally authorized all the pardons and clemency orders or if his staff used the mechanical signature device without authorization. Justice Department Pardon Attorney Ed Martin has indicated the pardons will undergo an internal review as well.
Pray for chairs and members of congressional committees as they seek to ensure presidential actions are authentic.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The Supreme Court’s majority turned down the appeal of a lower court ruling that supported the right of a middle school to ban a seventh-grade student from wearing a tee shirt that said, “There are only two genders.” The First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals determined the school’s conclusion that the shirt could be disruptive was reasonable, in keeping with precedents allowing schools to restrict certain messaging. Justice Alito dissented, stating that freedom of speech should be the rule, not the exception.
Pray for Supreme Court justices as they prepare to issue decisions on outstanding cases heard during the current term and deliberate which cases they will hear in the fall.
