Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week titled “Fighting Overcriminalization in Federal Regulations.” The president called the overregulation of the nation “dire,” stating that “no one — likely including those charged with enforcing our criminal laws at the Department of Justice — knows how many separate criminal offenses are contained in the Code of Federal Regulations.” His order directs federal agencies to publish a list of “all criminal regulatory offenses enforceable by the agency or the Department of Justice” within a year. The order also requires these reports to be made annually.
Pray for President Trump and members of his administration as they work to determine all the criminal penalties for violations of federal regulations.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
The House majority proposed banning AI regulation by the states for ten years as part of the Budget Reconciliation Bill. The exceptions would be made for laws that “remove legal impediments to, or facilitate the deployment or operation of, an artificial intelligence model, artificial intelligence system, or automated decision system.” Some have raised concerns about the risks that the measure poses to data privacy protections under state laws.
Pray for members of Congress to be prudent in their approach to judicial confirmations.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The House Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Representative Bruce Westerman of Arkansas, included provisions to increase oil, gas, coal, and mineral leases on public lands and waters in the comprehensive legislation to support President Trump’s agenda. An amendment from Representatives Mark Amodei of Nevada and Celeste Maloy of Utah would allow tracks of public land to be sold for development in their respective states.
Pray for the chairs and members of committees as they seek to reconcile the bill to fund the government and the president’s agenda.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of a truck driver in a Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) civil case. The man, who was released from his job after failing a drug test, brought the case against cannabis companies for falsely marketing products as containing zero tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Pray for the justices of the Supreme Court as they hear cases pertaining to corruption and racketeering.
