Issue 697 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration is testing drone detection capabilities in various locations this year. Secretary Duffy said that President Trump believes in “radical transparency,” referencing the previous administration’s secrecy surrounding the drone swarm in New Jersey last year. The testing is intended to “help determine the effectiveness of these technologies and whether they might interfere with FAA or aircraft navigation systems.” The FAA requested that recreational drones not be flown during testing periods.

Pray for President Trump and Secretary Duffy as they seek to ensure the safety of air travel and drone operation.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri reintroduced the PELOSI Act to ban members of Congress and their spouses from trading stocks while they serve in office. Senator Hawley stated, “Americans have seen politician after politician turn a profit using information not available to the general public. It’s time we ban all members of Congress from trading and holding stocks and restore Americans’ trust in our nation’s legislative body.”

Pray for members of Congress as they consider this ethics legislation.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan has proposed an amendment to government funding legislation that would transfer antitrust enforcement authority from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to the Justice Department. The measure is intended to streamline enforcement against monopolies and avoid “turf wars” between federal agencies. The FTC’s duties would be limited to protecting consumers from fraud and deceptive business practices.

Pray for the members and chairs of Senate and House committees as they address federal funding and seek to assist in streamlining executive agencies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court heard arguments in a Free Exercise case regarding school choice and religious liberty this week. The Oklahoma attorney general and the state’s supreme court filed suit to block a Catholic school from joining the state’s charter school program after the charter school board approved the application. The state’s officials say that charter schools must be “nonsectarian.”

Pray for the justices of the Supreme Court as they near the end of the scheduled oral arguments for the current term and deliberate decisions.
