President Trump signed the “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections” order last week.
Nineteen state attorneys general filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders, titled “Preserving And Protecting the Integrity of American Elections.”
The order was signed last week and already has three other lawsuits targeting various aspects of its proposed implementation. This most recent lawsuit is attempting to block two of the order’s directives; mandating that voters provide proof of citizenship while registering to vote, and requiring all mail-in ballots to be received before the end of Election Day.
The state officials allege that this order violates the Constitution, which says that the “Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State,” according to the introduction of its Elections Clause.
However, the House of Representatives is reviewing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which has also been introduced in the Senate, which would require voters to show proof of citizenship before casting ballots.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For federal judges hearing the lawsuits against President Trump’s executive orders to uphold the law.
- For members of Congress as they consider the SAVE Act to amend and update the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
- For Senator Mike Lee and Representative Chip Roy as they promote the legislation to require voter ID.
