Issue 648 – Verse of the Week

May 23rd – May 29th, 2024

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. – Psalm 1:3

Strong Roots

Although bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth, it looks as though it is barely growing at first. This is because it has no branches, just lots of deep and wide roots. Once the roots take hold, the bamboo is capable of a growth spurt of as much as 48 inches in 24 hours. Today’s verse references being planted like a tree near water, where it will extend its roots deep and wide to establish itself. Psalm 1:2 says how this occurs: “His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” The source of your spiritual refreshment and nutrients is found in God’s Word. Make sure you are grounded with deep roots in Scripture so that when your season for fruit-bearing arrives, you are prepared.
