A God-Honoring Lifestyle

They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it.      Ezekiel 16:50

God was about to bring desolation upon Jerusalem, and He had Ezekiel, His prophet, warn them over and over again. As a nation of people, they had largely rejected God. They had been disobedient to the commandments of God, often flaunting their sinfulness. God was so upset with them that He compared them to the infamous Sodom.

By the end of chapter 16 of Ezekiel, the Lord shows His eternal mercy, reminding the people of Israel that He will remember His covenant with them, even though they had broken it. Matthew Henry says in his commentary, “I will remember it and it shall flourish again.” Theologian John MacArthur penned these thoughts: “Nations are obliged to follow the true God or suffer dire consequences. Not just Christians or ‘Christian nations,’ all nations.” Just as personal blessings are received from living a God-honoring life, so national blessings are tied to honoring Him—and the only way to Him is through Jesus Christ.

While God has blessed America, denying His authority is a path to national destruction. With the challenge of a presidential election ahead, pray that voters will receive God’s discernment to choose a leader who is dedicated to the national recognition of the Lord and to the freedoms that come from following Him.

Today’s Verse: Ezekiel 16:50

They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it.
