Impeachment of DHS Secretary Advances to House Floor

House Homeland Security chair says he has a duty to fulfill regardless of the likely outcome in the Senate.

The House Committee on Homeland Security voted early Wednesday to advance the articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas out of committee to the floor of the House of Representatives. The committee’s articles accuse Secretary Mayorkas of “breach of trust” and “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” regarding his handling of U.S. border security and immigration.

When asked why the House is proceeding with impeachment proceedings when the Senate is unlikely to be convicted in the Senate, committee chairman Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee said he believes he is doing his duty.

He stated, “The same question gets asked. … ‘Are you just doing something that’s going to wind up being fruitless anyway because of the Senate?’ Well, fine, if that’s what they choose to do, but I have a duty to do.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Green and members of the committee as they prepare for a floor vote next week on the DHS secretary’s impeachment.
  • For Secretary Mayorkas and DHS officials to uphold the border security and immigration laws of the nation for the good of both U.S. citizens and migrants.
