Fifth Fleet Commander Says Iran Involved in Ship Attacks

He stated Houthi attacks on international shipping “clearly funded and supplied” by Iran.

Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, said Iran is “very directly involved” in supporting the Houthi rebels in Yemen as they attack commercial ships in the Red Sea region.

While he did not indicate the attacks were directed by Iran, he stated, “They’re resourcing, they are supplying, and they’re providing training.” Vice Admiral Cooper added, “They’re obviously very directly involved. There’s no secret there.”

He continued, “Clearly, the Houthi actions, probably in terms of their attacks on merchant shipping, are the most significant that we’ve seen in two generations. The facts simply are that they’re attacking the international community; thus, the international response I think you’ve seen.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Vice Admiral Cooper to be led by the Lord as he commands the U.S. Fifth Fleet.
  • For the president and his military advisors as they determine the U.S. course of action in the Middle East.
  • For U.S. and allied military leaders as they conduct missions to safeguard commercial shipping in the Red Sea region.
