Call Anytime!

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.       Jeremiah 33:3

You may have a friend or family member who tells you that you can pick up the phone and call them anytime. Try it at 3 in the morning and you will see how serious they were about “any” time! God, on the other hand, has extended an invitation to you to call. How often do you dial up your spiritual line to Him in prayer? Daily? Any time? The invitation is wide open. You will never get a busy signal, be put on hold, or get transferred half a dozen times only to wind up with a dial tone. As you daily practice more of the presence of God, it will seem like you have less of a “call” and more of an ongoing dialogue.

God has promised He will answer your call. You must be attentive because the answer may come at a time and place you least expect. Then be anticipatory. He said, in today’s verse, He will reveal things to you that you hadn’t known, “great and hidden things.” It’s like being an insider in a great mystery—indeed, when you are in Christ, that is exactly who you are! “Pray without ceasing,” Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:17—and that is sandwiched between two other directives: “Rejoice always” and “give thanks in all circumstances.”

A poll done in May of last year showed that six in ten Americans say they pray—but some could not identify their “higher power,” and, for others, prayer meant meditation, mindfulness, or reciting affirmations. As a Christ-follower today, your prayers to Almighty God should be for them to come to the place where they know Him through a relationship with Jesus Christ. He will hear, and He will answer.

Today’s Verse: Jeremiah 33:3

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

33 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard: 2 “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: 3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. 4 For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword: 5 They are coming in to fight against the Chaldeans and to fill them with the dead bodies of men whom I shall strike down in my anger and my wrath, for I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil. 6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. 7 I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first. 8 I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me. 9 And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.
