House Speaker Responds to Texas Border Border Trip

He calls Eagle Pass the “epicenter” of the border crisis.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson of Louisiana and more than 60 other House members visited Eagle Pass, Texas, this week to see the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border for themselves.

Speaker Johnson said the Department of Homeland Security “want[s] more money to process illegals into the country… We’re down here on the border of Eagle Pass. This is the epicenter of the problem, of course. We have 64 members of Congress representing 29 states and one U.S. territory. We have people from California, Maryland, and Florida because every state is a border state. This administration opened the border wide for the whole country.”

“This is intentional. These are policy choices that got us into this situation,” Speaker Johnson said. “We passed H.R. 2 seven months ago. Our legislation, the Secure the Border Act, does exactly what is necessary to stem the flow and get on top of this crisis.“ He continued that legislation would restore the Remain in Mexico policy and end catch-and-release, rebuild the wall, and finish building the border wall that he called “an important deterrent.

“The president doesn’t even need new federal laws. He needs to enforce the ones on the books. He could do much of this by executive order, but he refuses to do it,” he added. “We’re completely overrun. South Texas cannot handle what’s happening and neither can the rest of the country.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the House speaker and members of Congress as they consider the administration’s request for funding.
  • For the president and his Cabinet to uphold and enforce the laws of the land regarding border security and immigration.
