He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. – Luke 18:1

Today’s verse sets the stage for Jesus’ parable of the widow who seeks justice from an uncaring and apathetic judge. After describing the persistence of the widow in asking the judge, Jesus says, “Will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night?“ He said that God will not delay and “will give justice to them speedily.“ Is there an injustice that you seek God to resolve? Do you have a prayer request that has yet been unanswered? Persist! Draw near to the Lord and keep asking. In Luke 11:10, Jesus states, “For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.“ Be encouraged that God hears your prayers and He will answer. As you continue making your requests, remember His answers and provision of the past, and thank Him for them!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the justices and judges of the federal judiciary to uphold the law and the Constitution.
  • For senators and representatives in Congress as they craft and negotiate federal legislation.
