December 21st – Thursday

When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, “Rejoice with me.” – Luke 15:9

Losing something of great value, whether it be financial or sentimental, can be devastating. Usually, everything that can possibly be done to locate it will be. Consider what you have done when you have found something valuable that was lost. Did you call someone, perhaps send a text, or post on social media to let others know the item was recovered? Celebration is the natural result. Today’s verse refers to a woman who had 10 silver coins and had lost one of them. In the context of the story, a single silver coin, or drachma, was equal to a day’s wage. This was a lot of money! So when the woman locates the missing coin, she celebrates with her friends. Jesus draws the comparison of the lost person, who does not know Him, coming to saving knowledge of the Lord. How all of heaven rejoices that the lost has been found!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Treasury Secretary Yellen as she oversees the efforts of U.S. officials to maintain the nation’s financial footing.
  • For U.S. legislators in Congress as they determine the appropriations for taxpayer dollars.
