A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it. – Luke 13:6
Today’s verse is from a parable Jesus told about a vineyard owner who was so disappointed not to find fruit on the fig tree he planted three years before that he ordered it cut down! The vinedresser in the story asked the owner to give him time to cultivate and fertilize the tree, so that fruit might grow the following year, agreeing that, if the extra care did not make it productive, it could go. As you go about the Christmas season, have you considered the “trees” in your life that may not be producing? Are there relationships or activities that could bear fruit if they received extra care? Are there priorities that need to be reexamined due to the lack of return on your investment of time and effort? As you pray for the nation and its leaders today, ask the Lord to guide you in rearranging any areas of life that are not productive!
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For the House speaker and Senate leaders to be wise in determining the legislative priorities they will set.
- For members of Congress to be aware and take action on areas of government that are not productive.
