December 5th – Tuesday

Because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. – Luke 11:8

The Twenty-First Amendment was ratified by the majority of the states on this day in 1933 to repeal Prohibition. The Eighteenth Amendment, which prohibited the use and sale of alcoholic beverages, had been established to enhance public health. However, Prohibition had spawned crime syndicates and illegal speakeasies, or hidden bars, across the nation. While officials in the government may try to legislate morality, it is in the heart of humanity that such decisions are made. Laws cannot stop the unregenerate, only the saving blood of Christ Jesus can lead a person to transformation. As you pray over the United States today, considering all the ways that the nation has strayed from God’s righteousness, pray for the Spirit of the Lord to move in the hearts of Americans to turn to Jesus as Savior and Lord.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For senators and representatives on Capitol Hill to be prudent as they deliberate and pass laws and acts.
  • For the president and administration officials as they consider which pieces of legislation he will sign into law.
