Senators Seek Ban on Travel from China

WHO has requested more information on the large number of child respiratory illnesses in China.

A recent rise in pneumonia cases among children has been reported in the United States, with clusters in Ohio and Massachusetts. Some medical professionals, referring to the condition as “white lung syndrome,” have begun questioning whether or not the cases are related to a surge in respiratory illness in children occurring in northern China and Beijing. Last week, the World Health Organization asked the Chinese government to provide more information on the epidemic that has filled their hospitals.

Pneumonia infections have increased sharply in Europe with cases spiking in the Netherlands. Cases are also being reported in Australia.

Seven senators have requested President Biden’s administration to place a travel ban on arrivals from China, though a link between the U.S. cases and those in China has yet to be made. Their letter cites the deceptive history of the Chinese Communist Party regarding public health issues.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the CCP’s obfuscation of the truth, and lack of transparency, robbed the United States of vital knowledge about the disease and its origin,” the senators wrote. They reminded the administration of allegations that China failed to alert the United States and other worldwide authorities about the coronavirus spreading in central China in 2019 that proved to be the cause of COVID-19.

“That means we should immediately restrict travel between the United States and [China] until we know more about the dangers posed by this new illness,” the legislators wrote. “A ban on travel now could save our country from death, lockdowns, mandates, and further outbreaks later.”

CDC Director Mandy Cohen said, “We believe there is no new or novel pathogen” responsible for cases in China. The White House has yet to respond.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate as they attempt to prevent a potential epidemic of respiratory illness in this nation.
  • For the president and his health officials as they assess the risk posed by travelers from China to the U.S.
  • For healing for the children who are suffering from the respiratory infection.
