For kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations. – Psalm 22:28

On this day in 1963, Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as the 36th president after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He became the eighth U.S. vice president to assume presidential office due to the death of the sitting president. Today’s verse speaks to the sovereignty of God over who governs in this world. Earlier in the passage, David states that all the ends of the earth will turn to the Lord, that all the families of the nations will bow before Him, “For dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations“ (Psalm 22:27-28). The beginning verses of this chapter are Messianic prophecy, symbolizing what the coming Christ endured. As you pray over the United States and intercede for persecuted people of faith around the world, offer gratitude and praise to the One who triumphed over death and has all power to save!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and vice president to look to the Lord for guidance in their executive roles.
  • For God to work out His good purposes in the United States.
