The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. – Proverbs 16:9

The cornerstone of the Jefferson memorial was laid on this day in 1939. A copy of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, and 4 newspapers of that era were enclosed in the hollow cornerstone. The memorial was dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt on the 200th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson’s birthday in 1943. As you consider the life and contributions of Thomas Jefferson to the founding of the United States today, contemplate what it means to have Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone of your life. Today’s verse speaks of how it is the Lord who establishes your way. As you pray for those in positions of authority today, ask God to lead you, and them, in building the future on the unshakeable foundation of Jesus as Savior and Lord.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For members of the Executive Legislative, and Judicial Branches of the U.S. government to build their legacies on the unshakeable foundation of Christ Jesus.
  • That legislators in the House and Senate would live and serve with integrity and humility.
