Senate Will Not Take Up Israel Stand-Alone Support Bill

The majority leader wants a multi-aid package as does the president.

The House of Representatives passed a bill that would provide $14.3 billion in aid to Israel in support of its response to the Hamas terrorist attack and war.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York refuses to take up the bill. President Biden has said he would veto it.

Senator Schumer said in a speech on the Senate floor, “The Senate will not take up the House GOP’s deeply flawed proposal. Instead, we will work together on our own bipartisan emergency aid package that includes aid to Israel, Ukraine, competition with the Chinese government, and humanitarian aid for Gaza.” He called the bipartisan House bill “unserious and woefully inadequate.”

The Senate majority leader also opposed the offset of aid to Israel reached by taking funds from the IRS.  “Emergency funding should not be offset,” he said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker Johnson and members of the House as they consider and pass legislation.
  • For Majority Leader Schumer to seek wisdom from the Lord regarding bills and measures to bring to the Senate floor.
  • For the president and his administration to be used by God to accomplish His purposes.
