October 30th – Monday

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. – Revelation 1:3

President Roosevelt approved the massive aid package known as the Lend-Lease program on this date in 1941. The United States did not want to be drawn into another World War in Europe and had not yet been attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor. The aid amounted to over $50 billion that was sent to the United Kingdom and other nations fighting against Germany. The assistance was set up as a series of deferred payments for military equipment in exchange for “consideration” from the United Kingdom. The U.S. expected the support of the UK to create a liberalized international economic order in post-war Europe. Similar agreements were made with over 30 nations by the end of the war. These argreements are credited with the growing globalization following the end of the conflict.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and members of Congress as they negotiate which nations will receive aid from the United States.
  • For U.S. diplomats as they navigate the political and ideological differences between the U.S. and other countries.
