October 29th – Sunday

Put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

Though only four presidents have died due to assassination, there have been dozens of presidential assassination attempts made throughout U.S. history. One such attempt happened on this day in 1994 when Francisco Martin Duran fired 29 confirmed shots at President Bill Clinton. Duran aimed across the North Lawn of the White House with a semi-automatic rifle and had a suicide note in his pocket, thinking the president was standing among a distant group of men. He was tackled by three tourists before he injured anyone, and was sentenced to 40 years of prison for his actions. As you pray for those in public office today, ask the Lord to protect their lives from those who have homicidal tendencies. Then, lean into the love God has for you and do what you can to communicate it to others!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For agents of the Secret Service as they guard the president, former presidents, and presidential candidates.
  • For the safety of members of Congress as the nation continues to experience deep ideological divisions.
