October 26th – Thursday

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. – Matthew 24:35

On this day in 1825, the Erie Canal opened, providing passage from the Atlantic Ocean into the Great Lakes area. Twenty-three years later a shipping route was completed to connect the Great Lakes with the Mississippi River, expanding the nation’s navigable waterways. Today’s verse speaks of the permanence of God’s word. The Lord Jesus sanctifies you, cleansing you by His blood and the water of His word (Ephesian 5:26; Hebrews 9:14; 1 John 5:6). Reflect on the amount of work required to open and connect the waterways, the amount of obstacles from earth and rock and other impediments that had to be removed. As you pray for governing officials today, ask the Lord to remove any obstacles that block the flow of His Spirit’s work in and through your life. Open your heart and mind to be willing to adhere to His word in deeper ways.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Administrator Adam Tindall-Schlicht as he oversees the Transportation Department’s Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
  • For Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to seek guidance from Almighty God as he fills his role.
