Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. – James 1:22

Have you ever heard instructions on how to do something, perhaps on a job or some do-it-yourself project, but were not able to do what was directed without someone to show you in person? Sometimes following the instructions contained in the word of God seems to be unattainable. This is why you must rely on the Spirit of God who lives within you once you accept Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. Today’s verse urges you to be a doer of the Word, not just a hearer. David called the Lord his helper (Psalm 54:4) and the writer of Hebrews stated that you can be confident in His help (13:6). Jesus said His Spirit abides in you and will be with you forever (John 14:16-17). So today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to work in you “both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). And express your gratitude for God’s saving grace and tender mercy in your life.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For wisdom for members of Congress as they debate and negotiate legislation.
  • For discernment for judges and justices in the federal judiciary as they hear and decide cases.
