October 9th – Monday

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. – Isaiah 41:10

On this date in 1786, the Continental Congress of the United States established the U.S. Mint to create currency for the newly established country. The Mint is a bureau within the Department of the Treasury that currently has four active coin-producing mints in Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point. In addition to minting coins, this bureau is also responsible for managing the bullion depositories around the nation, Fort Knox being the most famous. The U.S. Treasury is estimated to own over 8100 tons of gold. While the establishment of currency has allowed for efficient commerce, it is vital to remember that money is simply a resource and a tool. As you pray today, ask the Lord to draw the hearts of Americans to Him and seek the treasure of His kingdom that lasts for eternity.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Director Ventris Gibson to seek God’s direction as she heads the U.S. Mint.
  • That Secretary Janet Yellen would look to the Lord for wisdom as she oversees the Treasury Department.
