Administration Decreases Offshore Oil Leases

Americans continue to experience higher energy prices.

President Biden’s administration has reduced new offshore oil leases to their lowest levels ever, for the next five years. They cite the reason as protecting Americans from climate change.

The Department of the Interior announced, “The Proposed Final Program includes a maximum of three potential oil and gas lease sales – the fewest oil and gas lease sales in history – in the Gulf of Mexico Program Area scheduled in 2025, 2027, and 2029. In compliance with the terms of the [Inflation Reduction Act], these three proposed lease sales are the minimum number that will enable the Interior Department to continue to expand its offshore wind leasing program through 2030.”

Officials said the move is “reflecting America’s rapid and accelerating shift to clean energy sources.”

Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana stated, “This is the smallest offshore energy program in U.S. history. Only holding 3 lease sales over 5 years in the Gulf of Mexico isn’t even bare minimum effort. POTUS is… helping Russia and Venezuela and destroying our energy security.”

“American people will pay the price,” Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate as they address energy policies in the executive branch.
  • For Secretary Haaland as she oversees the Interior Department’s management of oil and gas leases.
  • For discernment for U.S. energy officials as they make decisions regarding production.
