Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. – James 4:8

On this day in 1812, after the U.S. had declared war against England, the USS Constitution, also known as “Old Ironsides”, overtook the the British friate HMS Guerriere. The resilient American frigate engaged in a fierce battle off the coast of Nova Scotia. In the battle against HMS Guerriere, the USS Constitution’s firepower and tactics allowed it to inflict heavy damage on the British battleship. This success of Old Ironsides against the British vessel had a significant impact on the perception of the U.S. Navy. This became a celebrated moment in naval history, symbolizing American resilience during the War of 1812. Today, the USS Constitution remains active, serving as a museum to preserve the memory of the courage displayed by U.S. sailors in that historic battle. As you reflect on this piece of history today, consider the spiritual battles the Lord has seen you through. Praise Him in gratitude for His protection, kindness, and love.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • That God would protect members of the U.S. military on active duty wherever they are deployed.
  • For the president to draw near to the Lord and receive His guidance and direction.
