Issue 606 – National Prayer Needs

Additional National Prayer Needs

Pray for our Military

The U.S. Government Accountability Office found the Coast Guard field units are often called upon to respond to natural disasters or other emergencies but without stockpiles of food and water. Calling the Coast Guard’s policies on emergency stockpiles unclear, the report said, “Without emergency food and water on hand, these units may become disaster victims themselves – making it harder to help others.”

Pray for government officials as they assess the need to fund the Coast Guard so that it might do the work that is required.

PRAY FOR AN END TO THE WAR IN UKRAINE

Back-channel discussions over Ukraine are ongoing among several former American national security officials and current high-ranking officials of the Kremlin in what is being called “Track Two diplomacy” after Track 1.5 efforts ended, according to an individual involved in the talks. The biggest sticking point, they say, is not with Russian officials but with President Putin himself. Efforts to bring an end to the war are not official.

Pray for those who are making the effort to bring an end to the war in Ukraine and restore peace to the region.

Pray for AMERICA’S FOREIGN RELATIONS

President Biden has indicated he would approve a Congressionally-authorized weapons package for Taiwan worth up to $1.1 billion in military equipment. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated in May, “I’m pleased that the United States will soon provide significant additional security assistance to Taiwan through the Presidential Drawdown Authority that Congress authorized last year.”

Pray for the president, members of Congress, and the defense secretary as they work to fulfill the responsibilities America has under the treaty with Taiwan.

Pray for AMERICA’S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

A class-action federal lawsuit has been brought against the health insurance company, Cigna, alleging the use of a computer algorithm to automatically reject hundreds of thousands of patient claims. A law in California, where the claims occurred, requires the individual examination of claims. The suit alleges more than 300,000 payments were rejected in just two months in 2022.

Pray for the judges hearing cases regarding the use of computer algorithms or artificial intelligence in sorting medical claims.

Pray for AMERICA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL

The Director of Mossad has reportedly held secret talks with CIA officials and senior advisers in the White House. The discussion focused on the efforts of President Biden’s administration to secure an agreement with Saudi Arabia, as an extension of the Abraham Accords, that would normalize relations between that kingdom and Israel.

Pray for Israeli, Saudi, and U.S. officials as they seek to expand cooperation between Israel and other nations under the Abraham Accords.

Pray for AMERICA’S ECONOMY

The Commerce Board, a business research group, said America’s consumer confidence reached its highest level in two years during July. The group believes the economy will continue to improve, even in the face of higher interest rates, as some inflationary pressures ease.

Give thanks for each indicator of improvement in the economy.

Pray for Goodness in America

Saying that he missed the friends and feelings of accomplishment, and truly believing that he still has more to give, country music star Craig Morgan, age 59, reenlisted in the Army and was sworn in on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He previously served 17 years, ten on active duty. The mandatory military retirement age is 62.

Pray for this veteran and others like him who wish to continue serving the nation as military members.

Pray for Needs Across the States

A U.S. district court judge is considering whether or not Hawaii can continue enforcing a new law that bans firearms on its beaches. The law took effect in July and the judge will decide whether to issue a temporary injunction banning its enforcement while the lawsuit plays out.

New state regulations in Connecticut would put an end to the sale of new gasoline-powered automobiles by 2035 as part of the state’s clean air standards. They join Rhode Island, Maryland, New Jersey, and New Mexico in adopting the new standards. Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont finalized their similar rules in late 2022.

Pray for state legislators and governors as they represent their constituents and legislate a variety of issues.

Pray for America’s Faith Community

“I don’t pray for revival; I pray for repentance. I don’t think America deserves a single more blessing from God; not one. We need to repent. And not only do we need to turn away from things, but we also need to equip and encourage the Church. … I hope that this wakes us up as a people of God, to come together in unity like never before, pray for our country, pray for a man of God to lead our country and put our country back under God.” – Nick Vujicic, Evangelist, July 2023, Orlando, Florida
