Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Labor is increasing the enforcement of child labor laws even as a number of states have loosened regulations regarding teenagers in the workplace. Officials say child labor violations have risen 69 percent across the last four years.

Pray for U.S. labor officials as they assess what constitutes a violation of child labor regulations as businesses have difficulty finding workers.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative Jim Banks of Indiana has requested answers from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack over a rule change his department made that, according to the congressman, would block religious schools from participating in the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service programs. Congressman Banks said that the decision not to provide free school lunches to low-income or nutritionally disadvantaged students in these schools would be “evil,“ calling it “a new low.”

Pray that Secretary Vilsack and the officials in the USDA would not exclude hungry children in Christian schools from the nutrition program.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation forwarded two bills to the full chamber that could expand teenagers’ rights to privacy and limit technology companies‘ ability to collect data from users who are minors. The bills known as the Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act would provide safeguards and protections to children online.

Pray for members of the Senate as they consider the importance of protecting children on social media.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The U.S. District Court of Central California heard oral arguments in a case surrounding the state’s prohibition of using federal and state funds designated for children with special needs from going to religious schools. Six Jewish parents and two Jewish schools allege in the suit that the California restriction is unconstitutional.

Pray for the judges who are considering the arguments regarding the restriction of the exercise of religious liberty.
