June 28th – Wednesday

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good. – Romans 8:28

On this day in 1870, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the act to make Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day federal holidays. Prior to Congress creating the federal holidays, they were initially applicable only to federal employees. Celebrating these holidays helps us to be grateful for the freedoms we have, for food on the table, for the birth of Christ, and for the opportunity to reflect at the start of a new year. As you pray for the president and his Cabinet today, meditate on the liberty Jesus came to this world to give you. In Christ, you can experience freedom, fruitfulness, and joy in all you do. Today, celebrate the salvation that comes through the acceptance of His birth, death, and resurrection, and pray for the nation’s leaders that they too can celebrate in Jesus.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For federal officials who do not know the Lord to have their hearts and minds drawn to accept salvation in Jesus.
  • For God’s purposes to prevail in all three branches of the federal government.
