State Department Releases Space Diplomacy Framework

First strategy of its kind outlines international cooperation for near-earth space.

The Department of State recently released its Strategic Framework for Space Diplomacy, the first document published by the United States outlining a formal protocol for friendly international space activity. The department already handles much of the international coordination required for various U.S. space projects, such as the James Webb Space Telescope and NASA’s Artemis missions.

“As near-earth space gets more crowded, the Framework will help maintain the rules-based international order and foster cooperation for long-term sustainability, commercialization, exploration, and space utilization,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. “We will work with our interagency partners to ensure U.S. leadership in this new collaborative space era.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken to seek God’s guidance as he heads the State Department.
  • For State Department officials as they seek diplomacy in space.
