Secretary Blinken Congratulates New IOM Director

Amy Pope will serve the UN migration agency for a five-year term.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently congratulated the new Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope. She was elected by the 175 member countries of the IOM and had served as the agency’s Deputy Director General for Management and Reform for two years before the election. Pope is the first woman elected to lead the IOM since the agency was founded by the United Nations 70 years ago.

“Ms. Pope’s election reflects a broad endorsement by member states of her vision to keep people at the heart of IOM’s mission, while implementing key governance and budget reforms to ensure IOM is prepared to meet the challenges it faces,” Secretary Blinken stated. “The United States strongly supports Ms. Pope’s vision and looks forward to working with her to implement the critical reforms necessary to create a more effective, inclusive IOM.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Amy Pope as she assumes her role as director of the International Organization for Migration.
  • For discernment for Secretary Blinken as he heads U.S. diplomatic efforts around the globe.
