But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession. – 2 Corinthians 2:14

Lewis and Clark embarked on their exploration of the recently acquired Louisiana Territory on this date in 1804. President Thomas Jefferson, who secured the territory from France, established the Corps of Discovery, a special unit of the U.S. Army. Led by Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark, the corps was intended to better understand the new territory’s flora, fauna, and geography to prepare a report on the economic possibilities of the area. The journey also was also tasked with finding the most efficient water route across the continent. The resulting journey lasted two years and accomplished its goal of making it to the Pacific Ocean via rivers and portage. As you pray today, ask the Lord to guide U.S. officials as they manage these lands today.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and his administration as they authorize projects and approve programs that impact the use and stewardship of U.S. lands.
  • For judges and justices in the Judicial Branch as they hear environmental challenges to projects that would produce oil and energy.
