New Disinformation Agency Formed

Foreign Malign Influence Center will include intelligence investigations into foreign influence on elections.

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines announced before the Senate Armed Services Committee the formation of a new disinformation agency, the Foreign Malign Influence Center (FMIC).

The center, Director Haines testified, was established according to a law passed last year by Congress. “It encompasses our election threat work,” she added, “essentially looking at foreign influence and interference in elections, but it also deals with disinformation more generally.”

The agency, Director Haines stated, would track disinformation campaigns that originate in a foreign country, but also “the public’s opinion within the United States.”

In addition, the Pentagon has established a new Influence and Perception Management Office while the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, and State Department have formed organizations to address disinformation as well.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Haines as she oversees intelligence gathering and advises the president and Congress.
  • For members of Congress as they seek to manage government spending.
  • For the heads of the Departments of State and Homeland Security, as well as the FBI and Pentagon, as they address disinformation.
