Iran Seizes Second Oil Tanker Bound for U.S.

U.S. Navy reports the second incident in a week.

The United States Navy reported that a second oil tanker was seized in the Strait of Hormuz by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Wednesday.

The tanker had departed Dubai, heading in the direction of the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates when it was surrounded by a dozen Iranian navy ships and forced to turn around and head toward an Iranian terminal. The vessel’s final destination was the United States.

This is the second time in a week that Iran has seized a U.S.-bound oil tanker and the fifteenth time over the past two years that such a vessel has been harassed or interfered with.

“Iran’s actions are contrary to international law and disruptive to regional security and stability,” the 5th Fleet stated. “Iran’s continued harassment of vessels and interference with navigational rights in regional waters are unwarranted, irresponsible, and a present threat to maritime security and the global economy.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Vice Admiral Charles Cooper as he commands the U.S. Navy 5th Fleet.
  • For Secretary Austin and Pentagon officials as they advise the president regarding the seizure of the oil tanker.
