Secretary Austin Testifies Before House Appropriations Committee

He proposed a budget aimed at keeping ahead of China’s arms race.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III presented his department’s proposed budget for the Fiscal Year 2024 to the House Appropriations Committee. Austin recommended larger investments into research and development to keep ahead of Chinese military innovation. The proposed $842 billion budget would also commit more funding to space-centered operations and better defenses to appropriately counter unmanned aerial vehicles.

“This is a strategy-driven budget—and one driven by the seriousness of our strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China,” Secretary Austin said. “The [People’s Republic of China] is our pacing challenge. And we’re driving hard to meet it. Our budget builds on our previous investments to deter aggression by increasing our edge.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the House Appropriations Committee as they consider Secretary Austin’s proposal.
  • That Secretary Austin appropriately advocated for the needs of his department.
  • That God to give divine wisdom to those in Congress as they wrangle with America’s vast financial needs.
