Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. – Matthew 7:15

On today’s date in 1864, the Republican party was founded in Ripon, Wisconsin by anti-slavery activists who opposed the recently passed Kansas-Nebraska Act. That bill opened the door to the expansion of slavery in the United States. Today, it is one of the two main political parties in the United States, currently in control of the House of Representatives, 28 state governorships, and 30 state legislatures. Among the policy positions the party holds are the support of deregulation, lower taxes, and upholding the Second Amendment right to bear arms. Regardless of your political views, it is important to remember that there is no party or group that can solve the needs of humanity. Ask the Lord today to give you guidance on how you can shine His light into the darkness of this world as you lift up governing officials in prayer.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For members of the House and Senate to seek God’s direction as they propose and vote on legislation.
  • That the president and officials in his administration would have their hearts and minds drawn to the Lord today.
